The three tile 'Walls', Creation-Day 4-Morning, Creation-Day 4-Evening, and Patterns of Prayer were my graduate thesis work in 2002. Based on a geode with its unremarkable exterior but profoundly interesting interior, paired with a desire to create meditative spaces led to these free-standing sculptures which, when standing within the curved space, can encompass ones vision- being immersed solely in pattern and surface. Having to scale down my work in my own studio, I didn't have an opportunity to work large again until I received the Roswell-Artist-in-Residence grant in 2013, where I continued these ideas. Instead of creating tiles mounted onto a wooden structure, I created hollow block forms that stack on top of each other in Earth Jewel.
